[Place of History and Legends]
Wales is home to over 600 historic castles and many are open to the public. Here are some of the most popular ones. Conway Castle, built by Edward I, is considered one of the finest medieval fortifications in Europe and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Caernarfon Castle, also built by Edward I, is well known for the investiture of The Prince of Wales. Harlech Castle, also a UNESCO World Heritage site, is situated in the heart of Snowdonia National Park where you can look down on the beautiful scenery of Snowdonia. The largest castle in Wales and the second-largest in Britain is Caerphilly Castle where the recent TV drama Merlin was filmed. What about a trip to Wales to visit and learn about the history and legend of these ancient castles?
